Only a smattering of news as we slide into the holiday weekend, so letโs try to get everyone out of here early. Telehealth platform KeyCare raised $24 million and plans to use the funding to grow its offices in Madison and Chicago.ย
Self-driving tractor startup Sabanto raised $17 million to turn old tractors into autonomous vehicles. We love that it works with any olโ tractor rather than being brand-specific, but there is something dystopian about the idea of getting stuck behind a tractor on the highway only to find it unmanned. Furthering our move into the future, recently relocated EeroQ raised $7 million to increase production of its quantum computer chips and make the technology more accessible. Technology also continues to reshape the northwest suburbs, where Cloud HQ is set to break ground on its $2.5 billion data center. All of this is great news for the robots, of course, but, uh, what about the rest of us?
Weโre even getting rid of the animals, though we imagine in this instance, the animals are happy to be excused from the discourse. Clever Carnivore is opening a new headquarters in Lincoln Park, from which it hopes to scale production of its lab-grown meat. Not meat alternatives. Actual meat, just without the animal it corresponds to.ย
The new HQs do help to balance out the ones weโre losing though. ExteNet is taking its wireless network services, Lisle headquarters and billion-dollar valuation south to the Dallas suburbs. Hopefully the couple of hundred thousand dollars in incentives will make up for the lack of stability in the Texas power grid.
Discover is planning to grow its Chicago presence with another 75 jobs for the main office and a professional development program for analytics hires looking to find the right role in the company.
And just to send you out on the right note for the Labor Day weekend, corporate profit margins are growing ever wider, reaching a level they have not hit since 1950 and proving that all the talk about strapped employers and difficult times is absolute horseshit.ย
Jobs, Glorious Jobs
On this, the eve of a long weekend, we do not find ourselves dreaming of labor. Jobs will be back in two weeks.ย
Inspiration of the Week
โIโm just Serena.โ
โWe had a whole other inspiration picked out and written up, but this little video? This โCome again?โ check at the beginning? This velvet chuckle at the very idea of being surprised by your own greatness? Let it wash over you like the fuel that it is.ย
